Once, grandmothers used to tell their daughters' daughters of of a tower somewhere west of the setting sun and north of the Middle of Nowhere. Behind that tower was a very particular garden and both were tended by a fairie named Gilenia, who was the byblow daughter of the Sun and the Winter Wind. Colder than her mother's rages and more fierce than her father's glare, Gilenia would come in the night and steal away the breath of girls who were immoral, licentious or disrespectful towards their elders. She would place their spirits in perfect spheres of glass that she would hang on the bare limbs of the trees in her snow-covered garden. And there the girls would languish for all time or so grandmothers used to say to their daughters' daughters.

Time passed, as it does for mortals, and the story died out as stories do. But Gilenia never died and she never stopped her task of harvesting the wicked girls of the world. Even to this day, she roams the earth and takes the breath from those who catch her eye, placing them in crystal prisons to hang from her trees forever.
